About the Association

Since 1976, the Australian Huntington's Disease Association (Qld) Inc. has grown from a small voluntary support group to a well established professional centre providing an information, counselling and welfare service to hundreds of families and professionals throughout Queensland. The Association is a member organisation of the national and international HD Associations.

Our mission is to provide professional support and advocacy for all persons affected by Huntington's Disease in Queensland.

Support services offered by the Association and outlined below include a Welfare and Counselling Service, Day Respite Program, Respite Holidays, Family Meetings (operating in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Mackay and Townsville) and an Education Program.

The Huntington's Disease Centre, Florence Dannell House, is situated at 385 Ipswich Road, Annerley in Brisbane. The Association was able to undertake the development of the Centre due to the kind bequest of the late Florence Dannell. The Welfare Service, Day Respite Centre and Administration operate from this facility.

Volunteers play a major role in the successful operation of the Association. In the Day Respite Centre volunteers assist with transport, serving of meals and interaction with clients. In Administration, assistance with fundraising activities and general administrative duties are undertaken by volunteers.

Fundraising through membership contributions, donations and other activities help us to expand our services and awareness of HD. To become a member of the Association or to make a donation, please click here for an application form or contact us at:
